In the Heat of the Sun
Il film è ambientato a Pechino durante la Rivoluzione Culturale. È raccontato dal punto di vista di Ma Xiaojun soprannominato Monkey, un adolescente. Monkey e i suoi amici sono liberi di vagare per le strade di Pechino giorno e notte perché la Rivoluzione Culturale ha portato i loro genitori e la maggior parte degli adulti a essere occupati o lontani. La storia ruota attorno alle avventure di Monkey con i suoi amici maschi malandrini e la sua successiva cotta piena di angoscia per Mi Lan.
