Derek Jarman muore di AIDS nel 1993. Durante i suoi ultimi giorni di vita realizzò un film, intitolato Blue, che rappresentava i suoi ultimi respiri durante una malattia che lo stava facendo lentamente scomparire. Stava inoltre diventando cieco, vedeva solo il colore blu. Questo cortometraggio è per lui.
